About this Section

The We are Fire Toolkit creates space for Indigenous knowledge of fire: raising the profile of Indigenous leadership which includes ways of knowing and doing fire practices.

First, the Toolkit invites readers to enhance their understanding of Indigenous Peoples, cultures and history in what is now called Canada and in particular, northern Saskatchewan.

Understanding Indigenous Peoples, cultures and history in Canada and northern Saskatchewan is paramount in recognizing their interconnectedness and relationships with uses of fire on the land.

From there, we invite you to explore this website further to learn how fire is used by First Nations and Métis Peoples (particularly in the Saskatchewan River Delta) and how fire benefits flora and fauna in the Delta’s rich and diverse ecosystem.
